Strudel with Apples, Plums and Geranium Leaves
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 1 hour
Serves: 15 to 20 medium sized pieces
- 1 package of phylo dough (approx. 15 sheets)
- 5-6 large apples
- 500 g plums
- 125 g melted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 100 g raw hazelnuts
- 1-2 geranium leaves (Eadible leaves of Pelargonium roseum)
- 2-3 tbsp rose water
Grate the apples and chop the plums. Finely cut the geranium leaves. In a deep bowl, mix everything together with the sugar.
Grease with butter a large rectangular baking pan (size about 30x50 cm). Spread the phylo dough on the working surface. Count the sheets from the package and divide them into three. Then divide the fruit filling accordingly.
Turn oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Take 3 sheets and brush the top with butter. Distribute evenly a part of the fruit stuffing. Fold the ends of the shorter side of the pastry and roll. Arrange the roll in the pan. Repeat the process for the remaining filling and pastry.
Coat the finished rolls with remaining butter and sprinkle with tab or rose water.
Sprinkle with plenty of granulated sugar and roughly chopped hazelnuts.
Bake at 180 degrees C in the middle of the oven until golden brown.
According to your taste, serve sprinkled with custard sugar on top or vanilla ice-cream.
